The safest helmet to wear on your motorcycle is a full-face helmet. The integrated chin bar makes sure your entire head is protected from impacts. full-face helmets are also the most diverse category of helmets: they range from adventure helmets to (sport) touring helmets and racing helmets.
Why a full-face helmet?
If you’re riding on track or on the streets, a full-face helmet is the way to go. If you like to race your bike on the track, it’s important to know that a full-face helmet is the only helmet allowed! Not for no good reason, because a full-face helmet is the safest option for a helmet. As far as for the streets; it’s usually the most quiet option for a helmet and it’s just a safe bet!
A full-face helmet can be made out of different kinds of materials. There are helmets made of carbon fiber, which offer a low weight for racing. Or helmets made of fiberglass or polycarbonate. Logically when the materials go up in costs, the more expensive a helmet will be. Regarding comfort: features like an internal drop down sun visor and integrated Bluetooth communication systems are becoming the standard.
Choosing the right full-face helmet
First off, you will have to make up your mind: what kind of rider am I? Adventure helmets share the looks and functionalities of off road helmets, combined with the safety of a full-face helmet. You will find a large eyeport to accomodate a set of goggles and a peak to block sunlight and deflect branches when you’re in the forest. The pointy chin bar also allows great airflow. Are you more of a sport touring or street rider? Then you will probably like a full-face helmet with an integrated drop down sun visor and plenty of ventilation.
