What is the difference between a value in A and a value in Ah?

The value in A is the cold cranking amps (CCA). This indicates how many amps the battery can deliver for a short time at low temperatures. Simply put: the higher the CCA value, the better the battery is suitable for starting a heavy engine. The value in Ah is the capacity. This value indicates how long you can draw constant current from the battery. Simply put: the higher the capacity, the longer you can leave the lighting on until the battery is fully drained.

What types of batteries are there?

The batteries we carry can roughly be categorized into 4 different groups;

Conventional batteries, these are normally the best-priced batteries, you have to fill them yourself and therefore require some maintenance.
Maintenance-free batteries, such as SLA, VRLA, AGM batteries. These batteries are roughly the middle class. They are completely sealed, and therefore require no maintenance.
Gel batteries, these batteries are also maintenance-free, but have a significantly lower self-discharge. Meaning that you don't have to hook them up to a battery tender every time you store your bike for a while. These Gel batteries do cost a bit more.
Lithium-ion batteries, these batteries can best be compared with the batteries that you find in your smartphone, they are a lot smaller and lighter than any other motorcycle batteries. In general these batteries have a higher starting capacity (CCA) but a lower (Ah).

What kind of trickle charger do I need?

It is not always immediately clear which battery tender suits your motorcycle battery. That is why we offer a number of attention points to help you make the right decision.

Check the voltage, most motorcycle batteries will be 12V. The voltage of your battery must match that of the battery tender, so in general you will also need a 12V charger.
Check the capacity of the battery: The battery capacity is expressed in ampere-hours (Ah). The capacity is stated on the motorcycle battery itself. Furthermore, the battery tenders state what the minimum and maximum Ah is. so that you can check whether the battery connects to the battery tender.
Check the type of battery: It is important to distinguish the different types of batteries. We make a distinction between 4 types of batteries: Conventional, maintenance-free, gel and lithium-ion (see the previous FAQ question). A Lithium battery therefore also requires a Lithium charger.

Why choose a Lithium-Ion battery?

A Lithium-Ion battery is very lightweight, has a high cold start capacity(CCA) and can be placed in any orientation. This means that these Lithium-Ion batteries are especially ideal for custom builds, choppers and racing bikes. However you can use a lithium battery on any bike for that matter, as long as the original battery in your bike has the same specs you can interchange them without any issue. On thing to consider is that they are more sensitive to low temperatures, and generally have a lower capacity (A), which means that you shouldn't leave the ignition running for to long or your battery will drain. These batteries have a very low self discharge, but keep in mind that when you do go to charge it, you do need a special Lithium-Ion battery tender. With the proper care and handling these Lithium-Ion batteries easily have tho longest lifespan of any other battery type.
